Project: Beasly Street, Cork City Council

Description

Over the past 60 years or more, the old streets of Cork have been progressively dug up and replaced with tarmac.

The original cobbles which would have seen service for hundreds of years were removed because the structure of the bedding and jointing was not able to cope with modern heavy vehicles.

These original paving setts were dumped in the River Lee for safe keeping.

Cork City Council is now retrieving the cobbles and is relaying them in the streets using Larsen Streetscape materials and bringing the streets back to life with the same stone.

The BS7533 compliant Streetscape range of products is providing the contractor and the council with a finished roadway that looks as it would have in by-gone times but has a tough, bonded construction to withstand modern traffic and city cleaning regimes.
